Tiny
clay boxes make wonderful and unique gifts! Students learn complex cutting
and joining skills as well as pre-planning and logic skills.
These boxes can be created using very little clay or can be made larger if
clay costs are not an issue. For larger boxes, fired
clay is recommended. Firing requires the use of a kiln. Many schools
without kilns make arrangements with their local highschool art teacher to
have their projects fired! Bisque-fired pots (first firing) can be left as
is or painted with tempera or acrylic paints. If you want the full pottery
experience, we can do a second session after firing to learn glazing. (please
be aware of the cost of glazes and the need for a second firing.)
The yellow heart-shaped box is made of plastiscene...
it will not dry and so will not make a very good "gift" but the
building skills are the same! Air-dry clay is
a good option for "gifts" when no kiln is available.
