Pacific Dogwood Older students will go into more detail in drawing realistic flowers, leaves and branches! Learn shading techniques. B.C.'s Provincial Flower... well, it's actually modified white leaves surrounding a tiny orangish blossom cluster but we can draw it! Paint it, too! Oil pastel would be lovely. Cliffs Looks tricky doesn't it? It's really just a series of upside-down "L" shapes. Shading creates the illusion of distance! Quite simple to draw a bit more complex when painting... an excellent lesson! Intermediate students will learn the benefits of simplification and editing, as well as using basic lines and skills to give the illusion of distance. Still Life Fruit A classic art lesson! Learn observation skills, basic perspective and overlapping. Choosing watercolour will teach 'quick sketch' skills as well as painting techniques while pencil, charcoal, or oil pastel will allow more time for detail. You provide the fruit! RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH Oil Pastel or Watercolour: 1.5hrs - 2hrs Charcoal: 1.5hrs	Sketching Stuffies Learn to sketch and shade using three-dimensional objects (stuffed animals) as models. Charcoal or pencil sketching is excellent for older students! RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH PENCIL or CHARCOAL: 1.5hrs	Animals Learn to draw an animal using photographs for reference. Younger students will be most successful with front or side views or animals. Choose a specific animals or a group of animals as a class theme. Great for sketching or oil pastels. Autumn Harvest Create a still-life with pumpkins, apples and pears. Emphasis on using light and shade to create the illusion of roundness. Good for watercolour, tempera, oil pastels or sketching. RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH Watercolour or Oil Pastel: 1.5hrs - 2hrs Pencil or Charcoal: 1.5hrs	Cartoon Characters What kid doesn't love cartoons? But do they know how they're drawn? Older students will learn to create their own characters by focusing on creating movement & emotion! What do you want people to feel when they look at your character? Learn advanced inking and shading skills. RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH Pencil Crayon & Pen: 1.5hrs	Salmon Learn how to draw and paint them at any stage in their life cycle. Let me know what kind of salmon and what stage you would like to focus on! This lesson would also work well in oil pastel or sketching. Poinsettia 'Tis the season! The poinsettia is an excellent shading lesson. Learn to 'pop' the lighter shades out from the darker shades! An excellent lesson in colour blending... you'd never know that 7 colours of oil pastel are blended together in the sample above! RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH Oil Pastel: 1.5hrs	Beachscape Can’t wait to get to the beach? Learn to draw or paint a sparkling summer beachscape… Create sand, waves, rocks and maybe even a sailboat! Need more of a challenge? Add people! Or a pier! Watercolour or tempera paintings will be more successful with a simple image. Pencil, charcoal or oil pastel allow for more detail. Blossoming Cherry Tree Feel the softness of the petals as they drift gently in the spring breeze. Learn to paint or draw a cherry tree in full blossom. The simplicity of the subject allows more time to explore detail and colour! Sculpture First Nations Masks A variety of west coast first nations masks! RECOMMENDED WORKSHOP LENGTH 1.5hrs	Sculpture Clay Boxes Tiny gift boxes are wonderfully cute and make creative gifts for Mother’s or Father’s day! Only a small amount of clay is needed for a ring sized box. These boxes can be made larger if cost of more air-dry clay is not an issue or you have a kiln available - potter's clay is relatively cheap!
